They previously served as Manager GIS and Remote Sensing Services at Canal Forest Resources, Inc. from 1995 to 2000, where they were responsible for the development, direction, and growth of the GIS division, including managing database systems, maintaining and developing software services, and performing spatial modeling and analyses, data development, and remote sensing. They worked as a GIS Specialist for the United States Forest Service from 1992 to 1993, developing the Croatan National Forest GIS program, maintaining district GIS databases, implementing a GPS mapping program for Red-Cockaded Woodpecker colonies and wildfire programs, and training staff on geospatial technologies. They earned a BS in Forestry from Virginia Tech (1988–1992) and an MS in GIS and Forestry from Virginia Tech (1993–1995).
