Jay Hanan has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries. Currently, they hold the position of Sr. Technical Director, R&D at Origin Materials since May 2021. Prior to this role, they served as an Associate Professor at Oklahoma State University from June 2011 to the present, conducting materials science and engineering research. Jay has also worked as a Chief Scientist and Director of R&D at Niagara Bottling from December 2008 to April 2021, leading research and innovation efforts in the beverage manufacturing industry. Plus, they have experience as a Staff member at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, owner of several small businesses, Research Assistant at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Engineer at Consolidated Container Company, and Environmental Tech at Applied Geoscience Environmental Services. Jay Hanan's career started as an Engineering Intern with the USAF. Jay also served as a Board Advisor, Entrepreneurial Development, and Innovator at various companies.
Jay Hanan earned a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Caltech in 2002. Jay also obtained an MS in Materials Science and Engineering from Caltech in 1999. Prior to that, they completed a BS in Engineering Physics and Chemistry from Oklahoma Christian University in 1997. In 2015, Jay attended the Stanford University Graduate School of Business for a course on Managing Teams for Innovation and Success. In terms of certifications, Jay became a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors in 2014 and obtained their Private Pilot certification from the Federal Aviation Administration in 2003.
