Gemma Ross

VP, Operations at OSARO

Gemma Ross is currently the VP Operations at OSARO. Prior to that, they were the Director of Engineering and Account Manager at Kindred.ai from January 2016 to February 2019. There, they focused on bringing customer experience and feedback directly to engineering and product teams. Gemma also monitored product performance and worked with a team to understand product performance and deliver improved results to the customer. Additionally, Ross acted as account manager for their largest customer, conducting weekly customer meetings to review metrics, discuss future changes and improvements, and collect feedback.

Before Kindred.ai, Ross worked as the Technical Resource Supervisor at DreamWorks Animation from March 2009 to April 2015. There, they supervised a 14-person 24/7 IT support team that developed tools and scripts to monitor and manage the render resources of 8 full-length animated films. Ross was also responsible for designing high-availability render systems with engineering teams to ensure multi-site redundancy of a constantly expanding server farm. Additionally, they visualized large-scale data to expose inefficiencies and advertise job success rate. Ross worked with customers to track their usage and educate users on effective best practices. Gemma also redesigned and streamlined the training and onboarding programs to accelerate a new hire’s advancement from temp to full-time employee by 50%, enabling them to make meaningful contributions more quickly.

While at DreamWorks Animation, Ross reframed the team’s relationship with movie production from customer service to partnership, enabling proactive, inter-departmental collaboration and timely technical solutions. Gemma also projected resource needs for over 9 concurrent projects and anticipated and mitigated resource contentions by generating flexible workflows to support and balance studio priorities of budget and schedule. Additionally, Ross mentored a team empowered to be an effective first line of triage. Furthered their technical knowledge thereby minimizing impact of infrastructure downtime on project deadlines. Lastly, they facilitated updates to compensation practices, which resulted in the recruitment of talented applicants and greater retention of high quality employees.

Gemma Ross attended Dartmouth College and majored in computer science with a focus in animation. Gemma then went on to attend Sacred Heart Prep.
