Senior Scientist - Assay Development at Osler Diagnostics

Bárbara Simões has a diverse work experience. In 2012, they worked as a Supermarket cashier at Oxigenio. Inspira-te. In 2013, they worked as a Promotor at Adereço Brand Activation. In 2014, they worked as a Cafeteria Operator at Flavourmania, Unipessoal Lda. In 2015, they held two internships. The first was at INESC where they took a Micro and Nanotechnologies Techniques course and developed skills in (photo)lithography, etching, liftoff, film deposition, and more. The second was at Leuphana Universität Lüneburg where they used AFM (JPK software) for nanoindentation tests in different types of fibers. In 2016, they were a Master Student at the University of Twente where they developed a microfluidic device for blood vessels realization and characterization. From 2017 to 2020, they worked at the University of Birmingham as a PhD Student and a Teaching Assistant. Her PhD theme was Smart Switchable Biological Surfaces for On-demand Biosensing. In 2020, they began working at Osler Diagnostics as an Assay Development Scientist and later as a Senior Scientist - Assay Development. At Osler, they worked on the Osler Origin, a ‘portable lab’ that can provide lab-quality diagnostics to anyone, anywhere, at any time.

Bárbara Simões completed a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico between 2010 and 2015. Bárbara then completed a Master's degree in Bioengeneering and Nanosystems from the same institution between 2014 and 2016. During this time, they also completed an internship in Nanotecnologia at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg in 2015. In 2016, they began their Master Thesis - Experimental Work in Microfluidics and Tissue Engineering at the University of Twente, which is still ongoing. Bárbara has also obtained two certifications: 5s Management from The Lean Six Sigma Company in 2020 and IELTS: CEFR C1 from the British Council in 2015.
