James Buwalda

James Buwalda is an accomplished leader in the field of agricultural innovation, holding prominent positions such as Chair of PlantTech Research Institute Ltd. since July 2019, where expertise in AI technology enhances New Zealand's horticulture sector. As Independent Chair of OSPRI since July 2018, James oversees stakeholder engagement within the livestock industries. James is also the owner of Innovation Strategy Ltd., providing consulting services on innovation and strategy since May 2007. Additionally, James has served as Independent Chair for Better Border Biosecurity and was the foundational Chair for New Zealand's Biological Heritage National Science Challenge, focusing on preserving the country's biological assets. Past roles include Strategic Adviser at Lincoln University and Chief Executive of the Department of Labour, complemented by a strong academic foundation with a PhD from the University of London and a B Agr Sc (Hons) from Lincoln University.
