Ostertag Concrete: A Legacy of Excellence

Ostertag Concrete's journey began in 1987 when brothers Tim and Chris Ostertag founded Ostertag Cement in Rosemount, Minnesota. Having worked for their father’s successful concrete business since the age of 12, the brothers were well-versed in the trade. When their father retired in 1986, they decided to continue the family’s legacy. With support from friends and relatives, they launched Ostertag Cement in the spring of 1987.

Over the next two decades, Ostertag Cement established itself as a leader in residential concrete subcontracting in the Twin Cities Metro area. Specializing in poured wall foundations and flatwork, the company earned a reputation for quality and reliability, partnering with the region’s top homebuilders. With more than 10,000 foundations completed, the company became a cornerstone of the residential concrete industry, consistently exceeding customer expectations.

In July 2023, the company faced a significant loss when co-founder Chris Ostertag passed away after battling cancer. Tim Ostertag continued to lead the company, upholding its high standards and legacy. However, in the fall of 2024, Tim decided to retire, marking the end of an era.

To preserve the Ostertag name and its strong reputation, Tim Hamill and Shaun Johnson, owners of Hamill Concrete, acquired Ostertag Cement. The company was restructured into two divisions: Hamill Concrete absorbed the poured wall foundation division, while a new entity, Ostertag Concrete, was formed to continue the flatwork division. This transition ensured the Ostertag legacy would endure, maintaining the values and standards that had defined the company for nearly four decades.

Today, Ostertag Concrete continues to honor its founders’ commitment to excellence while embracing a new chapter under Tim Hamill and Shaun Johnson's leadership.
