otherwise studio is a research and design studio. We help organisations, communities and citizens understand their changing environment, envision alternative futures and develop sustainable strategies to navigate towards desired futures.

Our approach enables organisations to examine, reflect and re-imagine their future pathways. We deliver tangible, action-oriented and lasting outcomes by combining expertise from foresight, futures studies and design. The studio metaphor reflects our client approach: collaborative spaces where creative ideas flourish through experimentation and materiality. We help clients cultivate this mindset within their organisations, enabling teams to tackle complex challenges, embrace experimentation and strengthen their futures literacy.

Our guiding questions are: Which popular visions obscure views for appropriate technological innovation? Which decisions will help stand the test of time? How are particular emerging changes relevant? Which certainties and common beliefs might falter?

We are a close-knit team of researchers and designers skilled in dealing with futures. We invite others to join us in thinking what could be otherwise and debate the reasons why and how this could happen.
