Kai Strickland

Senior Software Engineer at Own Up

Kai Strickland has a diverse work experience spanning several roles and industries.

Starting in 2014 with Addgene, Kai worked as a Customer Support Specialist, Customer Support & International Operations Coordinator, and eventually became the Customer Support & Operations Manager.

In 2018, Kai transitioned to Empowerment Through Integration, where they held positions as Director of Integration Programs and Interim Chief Operating Officer.

In 2019, Kai pursued a Software Engineering Immersive program at General Assembly.

Following completion of the program, Kai joined Own Up as an Associate Software Engineer. They then progressed to the role of Software Engineer, Software Engineer II, and currently holds the position of Senior Software Engineer. In this role, Kai utilizes various technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Redux, AWS, Jest, Storybook, Gatsby, Snowflake, and GitHub/Git. They work in an Agile Kanban environment, emphasizing domain-driven design, continuous deployment, and leaving code cleaner than it was found.

Kai Strickland began their education by pursuing an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree in Modern Languages (Spanish, German) from Sinclair Community College. They attended the college from 2010 to 2011. Later, in 2012, Kai enrolled at Miami University where they completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in International Relations and Affairs, which they obtained in 2014.

In 2019, Kai attended General Assembly to obtain a certification in Software Engineering through the Software Engineering Immersive program. This certification was obtained in June 2019.
