Stephen Barkby

Stephen Barkby is a seasoned engineer with extensive experience in software development and robotics, currently serving as Principal Software Engineer at Oxa since January 2020, with a focus on perception and tracking. Prior roles include Senior Engineer in tracking at Oxbotica and Lead Robotics Researcher at Sharp Laboratories of Europe, where Stephen established a new robotics group and fostered industry collaborations. Additional experience includes senior robotics system engineering at Dyson, where contributions were made to the development of a vision-based SLAM robotic vacuum, and involvement in the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle field operations at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics, culminating in a PhD in Deep Sea Robotics. Educational credentials include a PhD and dual bachelor's degrees in Mechatronics and Advanced Physics from the University of Sydney.
