Randall Benson

Randall Benson is an experienced meteorologist with a strong background in wildfire mitigation and energy sectors. Currently serving as Operations Manager at PacifiCorp, Randall previously held the position of Senior Meteorologist at Xcel Energy, focusing on wildfire mitigation. As State Wildfire Meteorologist and IMET at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Randall developed a probability-based risk assessment model for wildfire risks and contributed to incident command operations. Earlier roles include Lead Meteorologist at Cinergy, where proprietary risk models were developed for weather forecast data in energy trading, and Senior Meteorologist at Avangrid Renewables, focusing on atmospheric model validation and climate science analysis. Randall holds a Master of Science in Meteorology from the University of Utah and a PhD in Atmospheric, Environmental & Water Resources from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
