Mari Simonen is a highly experienced professional in the fields of international development and public health. Currently serving as a Member of the Board of Trustees for both Population Action International and Friends of UNFPA since 2012, Mari has been a key figure in oversight and audit as a Member of the Independent Oversight and Audit Committee at UNHCR since 2011. Previously, Mari held significant roles at UNFPA from 2006 to 2012, including Special Adviser to the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director, Assistant Secretary General. Mari's academic background includes a Master's degree in Sociology and Education from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in International Development Education and Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley.
