Cameron started their career in 1998 as a Project Engineer at Ian Murray Engineering, where they focused on subsea consultancy and assessment projects. Cameron then worked at Amerada Hess as an Optimisation Engineer, promoting technical limit enthusiasm among offshore drilling crews. Lawson later joined Oceaneering as a Design Engineer, where they were responsible for designing ROV operated remote tooling and structural protective frameworks. In 2002, they moved to Aggreko as a Mechanical Development Engineer, managing the design team and component selection for diesel generator sets. Lawson then worked at P.A.C.T. Engineering Ltd as a Senior Development Engineer, responsible for managing mechanical engineering and overseeing groundbreaking pipeline and downhole intervention projects.

In 2008, Lawson joined Neptune Marine Services as a Development Engineer, where they designed subsea equipment for offshore operations. Cameron also worked at Wood Group Kenny as a Lead Subsea Hardware Engineer, providing support to BP for subsea operations and managing smaller projects. In 2015, Lawson became an Engineering Director at Cairndene, leading the engineering division and providing innovative and cost-effective products for the marine environment. Finally, they joined PAR Systems in 2015 as an Engineering Director.
