Steve Saling was a successful landscape architect for 13 years, where - ironically - a great deal of his time involved designing urban public spaces to be fully accessible to those with disabilities. Shortly after securing his dream job in Boston, he noticed an intermittent weakness in his left hand, which led to a diagnosis of ALS in 2006. Only two years later, Steve broke ground on the ALS Residence Initiative, the world’s first fully automated, vent-ready, skilled service residence specifically designed for people living with ALS. As the Co-Founder of ALSRI, Steve promotes the construction of similar residences and works to improve the lives of those living with ALS.
