Ashwath Kumar

Computational Biologist at Parse Biosciences

Ashwath Kumar has worked in various roles in the field of computational biology and bioinformatics since 2012. In 2012, they were a Graduate Research Assistant at the Georgia Institute of Technology. In 2013, they were an Associate Research Scientist at SRA International and Social & Scientific Systems, Inc., where they established end-to-end project specific pipelines for transcriptome assembly, variant detection, differential gene expression, alternative splicing, transposon analysis and differential methylation analysis. In 2019, they were a Translational Bioinformatics Intern at Bristol-Myers Squibb, where they established a pipeline for analyzing population structure of clinical trials and implemented a multi-layer perceptron with auxiliary neural network to identify regions of ancestral origin based on exome-seq data. In 2020, they were a Quantitative Biology Intern at Arcus Biosciences. In 2021, they were a Bioinformatics Scientist at Arcus Biosciences, where they led computational analysis for multiple immuno-oncology drug programs in multi-functional teams, developed analysis pipelines for single cell data to support drug development and translational research, and designed machine learning frameworks and pipelines for integration and analysis of omics data. Ashwath is currently employed as a Computational Biologist at Parse Biosciences.

Ashwath Kumar's education history includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Bioinformatics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, obtained from 2015 to 2021. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's degree in Bioinformatics from the same institution from 2011 to 2012. Ashwath also holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Biotechnology from Anna University, obtained from 2007 to 2011. In addition, they hold a Deep Learning Specialization certification from Coursera, obtained in November 2019.
