Partners in Dementia have been supporting people affected by dementia and other long term health conditions in York and its surrounding villages since 2018. Our aims are to support people to access meaningful activity and other useful evidence based resources to help them on their journey. We want to increase service options and improve care standards. To do this we offer three innovative and evidence based services: 

Beetle Bank Social Farm: Supports people with dementia to find purpose and engage in helping out on a farm whilst having fun and socialising. The farm is in Murton, York. We often look after the farm animals; grow fruit, vegetables and flowers; undertake woodwork and DIY projects; and we help the farmer out with other jobs too. There are half day and full day options each with different activities. 

Cognitive Rehabilitation: Helps people with dementia to function at the highest possible level in relation to goals which are important to them. Cognitive Rehabilitation is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. In this work, a trained Cognitive Rehabilitation Practitioner visits the person with dementia and their care partner if they have one in their home and helps them to decide on goal/s to work towards. The Practitioner then helps introduce tailored rehabilitation strategies to help gradually work towards the chosen goal/s.

Breath, Body, Mind sessions help family care partners learn scientifically proven breathing exercises to help reduce stress and anxiety and help them in their caring role. The sessions include gentle movements with breathing techniques. All the practices are simple and easy to learn and can be adapted for just about anybody.
