Michael Thigpen

Michael Thigpen is a Senior Medical Officer at PATH as of 2024, previously serving as a Medical Officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 2018 to 2022, where they led the HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment team and directed the HIV/STD Research Program. They have also held the role of Chief of Clinical Trials at the U.S. Military HIV Research Program from 2022 to 2024 and worked as a Medical Officer at the National Institutes of Health from 2014 to 2016. Michael obtained a Doctor of Medicine from Vanderbilt University in 1997, a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1991, and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2001.
