Nick Arab

Co-Founder & CEO at Pattern Bioscience

Nick’s been the CEO of Pattern since co-founding it in 2016 when, after a decade in diagnostics, he asked himself: “why does it still take almost a week to diagnose something as common and fast-moving as a life-threatening bacterial infection?” The answer, he realized, resided in the surprising complexity of bacterial resistance and that bacterial infections, like cancer, required targeted treatment of a few “bad cells” living in a sea of “good cells”. An electrical engineer by training, Nick suspected that single-cell isolation using a type of biochemical “digitization” could quickly and accurately reveal the key resistance and population characteristics of an infection. He founded Pattern with the goal of drastically improving antibiotic treatment decisions. Before Pattern, Nick held various leadership positions at Luminex, most recently serving as Sr. Director of the Advanced Technology Group. He is the primary inventor on over ten patents, twice winning Luminex’s “Top Inventor” award. Nick obtained his B.S. in Electrical Engineering at UT Austin.
