Marcus H. Sachs

Marcus H. Sachs, P.E. has a diverse work experience in the field of cyber and critical infrastructure security. Marcus H. is currently serving as the Deputy Director for Research at the McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security. Previously, they worked as the Chief Security Officer at Pattern Computer, an AI/ML company. Marcus has also held the position of Chief Security Officer and Senior Advisor at Cyber Nation Central®. In addition, they have served as the Vice President and Board Member at NAC-ISSA and is a Board Member at Cyber Huntsville. Marcus has further contributed to the field through their roles as an Advisory Council Member at Nodeware, Advisory Board Member at ThreatSTOP, Inc., Board of Directors Member at DSHIELD INCORPORATED, and Advisory Board Member at SageFirst Inc. Marcus H. Sachs, P.E. has an extensive education history that spans various fields and institutions. Marcus H. obtained a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1981. In 1998, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Science and Technology Commercialization from The University of Texas at Austin. Following that, they enrolled at James Madison University from 1999 to 2001 and completed a Master of Science degree in Computer Science with a concentration in Information Security.

Continuing their educational pursuits, Marcus pursued a PhD (ABD) in Public Policy at George Mason University from 2006 to 2011. Their military education includes attending the US Army Command and General Staff College in 1996, the Armed Forces Staff College in 1996, the US Army Signal School in 1993, the US Army Combined Arms & Services Staff School in 1988, the US Army Engineer School (Officer Advanced Course) in 1985, and the US Army Airborne School in 1982.

Marcus also earned additional certifications throughout their career. Marcus H. obtained the GSEC certification from the SANS Institute in March 2001. In May 2023, they completed the IRB # 2 Social and Behavioral Emphasis certification from the CITI Program. Furthermore, they hold a Professional Engineer certification from the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, obtained in July 1987. Lastly, they acquired an Advanced Class Amateur Radio License from the Federal Communications Commission in 1974.

Their educational journey began with earning a High School Diploma from Amos P. Godby High School in 1977. Prior to that, they attended Florida State University from 1977 to 1978, where they studied Physics. Marcus also underwent military training at the US Army Air Assault School in 1979, earning an Air Assault Badge.
