Michael J Miles, PhD has a diverse work experience that spans various industries and roles. Currently, they are serving as a Robotics Engineer at Pattern Labs. Prior to this, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Autonomous Robotics & Perception Group at CU Boulder, where they were a senior member of Team MARBLE in the DARPA Subterranean Challenge. Michael J'sresponsibilities included autonomous navigation, multimodal object detection, and high-performance computing. Before that, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Biomedical Microfluidics Lab at CU Boulder. Additionally, they have experience as a Simulation and Modeling Engineer Intern at Dynetics, Inc., an Electrical Design Lead at the Mars Rover Design Team - Missouri S&T, a Design Engineer Intern at Garmin International, and a Maintenance Lead at Catalytic Innovations. Michael J also served as a Summer Office Intern at Watlow and a Research Intern at the University of Missouri, where they worked on projects related to soybean root hair response to biotic and abiotic stress.

From 2011 to 2013, they attended Northwest Missouri State University and earned an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Science and Mathematics. Following this, from 2013 to 2016, they further pursued their education at Missouri University of Science and Technology where they graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Lastly, Michael J Miles completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder from 2016 to 2022.
