Timothy Murphy

Dr. Murphy has served as a member of PAVmed’s Medical Advisory Board since November 2014. Dr. Murphy, an academic interventional radiologist, was Professor of Diagnostic Imaging and Director of the Vascular Disease Research Center at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University from 2005 to 2018.

Since 1992 he has served in various leadership roles at the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), the largest interventional radiology society in the world, including Member of the Executive Committee (since 2003) and President of the Society in 2011. He has served in leadership roles in various other professional societies including the American College of Radiology (since 1998) and the American Heart Association (since 1992). Dr. Murphy has had a productive academic career with over 250 publications and leadership roles in several NIH-funded multi-center clinical trials (CORAL, CLEVER and ATTRACT). He served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology from 1998 to 2009 and as a reviewer for various other leading journals. He has served on multiple NIH study sections and data safety monitoring board. Dr. Murphy has been active in the life sciences innovation, serving as a consultant to Abbott Laboratories, Guidant, Genentech, Bayer and Terumo. He holds patents in stent graft technology, bariatric interventional radiology, and fluid drainage systems, and has co-founded four medical device companies.

Dr. Murphy completed his radiology residency as well as his vascular and interventional radiology fellowship at Brown University School of Medicine’s Rhode Island Hospital. He received his B.A. and M.D., cum laude, from Boston University and received an honorary M.A. degree from Brown University.
