Robert Kerr began their career in 1982 as a Programmer Consultant for Florida State University. In 1984, they joined the US Navy as an AT2 Avionics Technician, where they were deployed to the USS Coral Sea and was honorably discharged. In 1996, they began working as a Software Engineer for Document Management Systems, and in 1998 they were promoted to Software Developer. In 2001, they became an Independent Software Developer for Kanawha Insurance. In 2007, they joined ScanHelper as a Sr. Software Engineer. In 2011, they moved to SNI Companies as a Developer. Finally, in 2012, they joined Payspan, Inc. as a Sr. DevOps Engineer, where they introduced DevOps principles and implemented IAC and CAC across legacy monoliths while starting containerization on Docker leading to Kubernetes. Robert was later promoted to Sr. Software Developer, Automations, Sr. Software Developer, and Assistant Director, Client Development.

Robert Kerr attended Florida State University from 1986 to 1987, where they obtained a degree in Computer Science. Robert has also obtained certifications in Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Fundamentals from Linux Academy in December 2019, as well as C# Interfaces and Web API Design from Pluralsight.
