Michael Souza has a diverse work experience in the field of software engineering and research. Michael started their career as a Software Developer at San Antonio Legal Solutions from 2001 to 2004, followed by a role as a Software Developer at McClelland & Hine, Inc. (Techsurance) in 2005.

In 2009, Michael worked as an Undergraduate Researcher at The University of Texas at Austin, where they contributed to developing a safe and effective synthetic procedure for detecting cancer cells. Michael also developed software for analyzing microscopy images in Java/ImageJ.

From 2009 to 2010, Michael worked as a Research Assistant at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), undertaking research in computational science.

Michael then pursued their education and joined the University of California, Berkeley as a Graduate Student Researcher. Here, they utilized Python, Java, and Matlab to work on a method for predicting molecular functions of protein sequences using a Bayesian network approach.

In 2013, Michael joined MedExpert as a Software Engineer before moving to Alpine Data Labs the same year, where they worked as a Software Engineer and Analyst until 2016.

Most recently, Michael worked at Whole Biome Inc as a Senior Software Engineer from 2017 to 2018, before transitioning into the role of Staff Engineer in 2018.

Throughout their career, Michael has gained extensive experience in software development, research, and analysis.

Michael Souza completed their education history with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from The University of Texas at Austin in 2010. Subsequently, from 2010 to 2013, they pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biophysics and Computational Biology at the University of California, Berkeley.
