Peoples’ Counsel is a small but mighty team of lawyers, investigators, and organizers who believe that every survivor of police violence deserves an advocate.  Through our Houston-based hotline, we educate survivors about their constitutional rights, defend their dignity in court, and connect them with the resources they need and deserve. 

In addition to working directly with survivors, Peoples’ Counsel provides technical support to community-led movements—particularly those led by Black and Brown people who are most affected by police violence—to achieve systemic change.

In just two and a half years, our team has secured countless victories against police violence on behalf of clients and communities who are too often ignored and thrown away. 

Through all facets of our work, we are dedicated to illuminating the connections between individual survivors’ lived experiences and historical, systemic oppression.

Peoples’ Counsel is a nonprofit program hosted by the National Police Accountability Project, a 501(c)3 public charity.
