David Southwell

David Southwell has worked in the tech industry since 2001. David started their career at Sun Microsystems as a Solaris Kernel Technical Support Engineer in 2001. David then progressed to roles as a Software Engineer, Tech/Team Lead and Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, and Technology Lead at Sun Microsystems from 2003 to 2010. In 2010, they joined Oracle as a Technical Program Manager and Senior Software Developer, and then as a Principal Software Developer and Technical Program Manager. In 2017, they became the Engineering Manager (Infrastructure) and Head of SRE at Pex, and then progressed to roles as Director of Engineering (Infrastructure) and Head of SRE, and Senior Director of Engineering (Infrastructure) and Head of SRE. In 2017, they also took on the role of Owner at Deft Computing, where they were responsible for delivering new products and features for clients, bootstrapping a new SaaS offering, as well as project and program management.

David Southwell attended SMHS from 1992 to 1996 and the University of Colorado Boulder from 1996 to 2001, where they obtained a degree in Philosophy with a focus on Ethics. In December 2001, they obtained a certification in Solaris 8 System Administration.
