Su Qian

VP, Disease Biology at Pharmaron

Dr. Su Qian is Vice President of Disease Biology. He joined Pharmaron in August 2013. Prior to this, Dr. Qian served as Head of Metabolic/CV unit of Shanghai ChemPartner and led many client projects with a focus on diabetes and diabetic nephropathy. In this capacity, he helped clients to deliver one IND filing, 2 pre-clinical candidates (PCC), and expanded research expertise to disease areas of oncology and inflammation.

Prior to joining the CRO industry, Dr. Qian held a position of Senior Research Fellow of Biology at Merck & Co. where he worked for 14 years on target identification/validation, assay development, hit identification and lead optimization stages of drug discovery, and delivered 2 PCCs. He led several drug discovery projects, targeting GPCRs for CNS indications and liver enzymes for metabolic disease indications. In addition, he worked on ion channels and Alzheimer disease targets. Dr. Qian published several high-impact, peer reviewed articles in the field of metabolism and endocrinology.

Dr. Qian graduated from Nanjing University, China with a B.S. in Biology and holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Genetics from the Case Western Reserve University of Cleveland, Ohio, followed by postdoctoral training at Baylor College of Medicine, at Houston, TX.
