Tony Chen

SVP, Chemistry at Pharmaron

Dr. Tony (Tongqian) Chen is Senior Vice President of Chemistry. He joined Pharmaron in July 2007 and has a broad range of academic and industrial experience. Dr. Chen received his B.S. degree in marine chemistry from the Ocean University of China in 1986, MS degree (supervisor: Professor Li-Xin Dai) in organic chemistry from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1989, and Ph.D. degree (supervisor: Professor Matthew Platz) in physical organic chemistry from Ohio State University in 1995. After a short stint as a lecturer at Ohio State University, Dr. Chen did his post-doctoral research work with Professor Peter Gaspar at Washington University in St. Louis and Professor Marc Greenberg at Colorado State University in nucleic acid chemistry.

After serving as Research Scientist at Kodak for almost 3 years, Dr. Chen joined Sirna Therapeutics, Inc. in 2002. As a Senior Scientist, he made important contributions in the siRNA drug delivery program. He was a Research Fellow after Merck acquired Sirna at the end of 2006. Dr. Chen has 24 publications, including 7 patent and patent applications.
