Don Helms

Don Helms is an experienced infrastructure operations manager currently overseeing PHEAA’s server, storage, database, and middleware infrastructure platforms since March 2024. With a robust background in IT capacity management at Unisys, where responsibilities included managing a $100 million/year contract and reporting on various server and network systems, Don has demonstrated expertise in developing automated reporting systems and proactive capacity management strategies. Previous roles include systems administration and capacity analysis at Highmark, teaching Earth Science as a science teacher, and serving as an adjunct professor in Geographic Information Systems at Harrisburg University. An accomplished geoscientist and GIS specialist, Don has contributed to multiple organizations, including the City of Harrisburg and SAIC, and served as a Stinger Missile Team Chief in the US Army. Don's educational credentials include a Master of Science in Information Systems from Penn State University and a BS in Geology from Bucknell University.
