Matthew Smith

Matthew Smith is a seasoned actuary with extensive experience in the insurance sector, currently serving as a Senior Review Actuary at Phoenix Group since July 2022. Prior to this role, Matthew held several positions at LV= from August 2010 to July 2022, ultimately becoming the Lead Actuarial Manager for Experience Analysis & Methodology, where responsibilities included leading a team for experience analysis and chairing the Life Experience Analysis Forum. Previous roles at LV= included Asset Reporting Manager, Capital Efficiency Actuary, Senior Actuarial Analyst, and Actuarial Analyst, contributing to various valuation and reporting efforts. Matthew also gained foundational experience as a Summer Student in the Life Actuarial Pricing department at LV= and worked as an Overnight Camp Counsellor at Beaver Cross Summer Camp. Academically, Matthew holds a Certificate in Data Science from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and a 1st degree in Mathematics (MMath) from the University of St Andrews.
