James Johnston

James co-founded Piclo in 2013 with Andy Kilner and Alice Tyler. As CEO he is responsible for delivering the business plan, fundraising and strategic partnerships. Prior to Piclo, James researched direct current microgrids at University of Strathclyde, was an engineer at international consultancy firm Arup and was the founder of Solar Sketch. He is a published author and has contributed chapters to Academic Press books on the topic of peer-to-peer energy trading and local flexibility markets. James has a BEng in Mechanical Engineering and a MSc in Renewable Energy Systems from University of Strathclyde.
