Michael Young

Michael Young is a geospatial data scientist at Pinepeak, where they focus on physics-based wildfire simulations. With a robust background in developing machine learning and statistical models using remote sensing imagery, they have worked on projects addressing offshore pollution mapping, InSAR minesite monitoring, biomass estimation, and geological fault mapping. Prior to Pinepeak, Michael held roles as a data scientist at CGG Satellite Mapping and as an Earth Observation Software Development Intern at Satellite Applications Catapult, where they contributed to climate resilience initiatives in small island developing states. Michael's academic achievements include a BSc in Electrical Engineering and an MSc in Computer Science and Data Analysis from Durham University, both underscoring their commitment to environmentally and climate-motivated work.
