Gary Smith

Gary Smith has extensive leadership experience in the telecommunications industry, having served as President & CEO of Ciena from January 1998 to May 2001, where significant transformations were implemented during a challenging market downturn. Under Gary Smith's leadership, Ciena evolved into a diversified global leader, notably executing a large-scale integration with the Nortel MEN business in 2010. Prior to the CEO role, operational efficiencies were achieved as President & Chief Operating Officer, and a successful global sales strategy was executed as Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales. Currently, Gary Smith serves as a Board Member for Planet and has held board positions with NSTAC, Commvault, and Avaya. Gary Smith holds an M.B.A. from Ashridge Management College.
