Mark Budde is the Chief Builder and CEO of Plasmidsaurus. They co-founded Primordium Labs and were CEO from 2021 to 2024. Earlier, they were a Scientist at Targeted Growth/Matrix Genetics (Now Lumen) from 2011 to 2013, where they engineered cyanobacteria to route photosynthetic metabolism from sugar biosynthesis into lipid production. They earned a BS in Genetics and Molecular Biology from Purdue University (2000–2004), a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology, Metabolism and Molecular Biology from the University of Washington / Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (2004–2011), and completed a Postdoc in Synthetic Biology at Caltech (2013–2018), followed by a Synbio Lead role at Caltech (2018–2021).
