Principal Software Engineer - Backend at Plato

Mark Chandler has a diverse work experience in the software engineering field. Mark started their career as a Turret Builder (Software Engineer) at DesuraNet in 2008. From there, they joined IRESS Market Technology as a Software Engineer, where they worked on trading front-end applications. In 2013, they joined Linden Lab as a Technical Lead, responsible for maintaining and developing the client for the hit game SecondLife. Mark also interacted with the open-source community during their time at Linden Lab. In 2014, Mark joined Blizzard Entertainment, where they held various roles, including Senior Software Engineer Team Lead. Mark played a crucial role in making the Classic Games Server team cloud-ready and helped ship StarCraft Remastered successfully. Additionally, they led hiring efforts for the server team and implemented improvements in deployment processes using Docker and Kubernetes. Mark worked at Google as an SRE Manager from April to December 2019. Mark then joined Manticore Games Inc. as a Principal Software Engineer, working on backend development until May 2021. From May 2021 to February 2023, Mark was a Principal Software Engineer Architect at Unity Technologies. In this role, they coached and mentored staff engineers, advised engineering directors on technical gaps, and helped define best practices within the engineering organization. Mark also joined Plato in 2023 as a Principal Software Engineer - Backend.

Mark Chandler attended Curtin University from 2006 to 2011, where they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Software Engineering.
