George Giannakodakis

George Giannakodakis is the founder and CEO of PointData. George has over 25 years of experience in urban and regional policy, transport and infrastructure planning, and economic analysis.

George started their career in 2003 as a manager for urban development and social policy at the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) in Australia. In this role, they provided high-level policy and project advice to the State Government on key urban development projects, including infill development approaches and economic growth strategies. George also sat on the National Affordable Housing Working Group.

In 2005, George left DPTI to establish InfraPlan Pty Ltd, where they served as managing director and founder for 15 years. At InfraPlan, George provided advice and due diligence on several infrastructure projects worth up to $3 billion, developed plans across a range of disciplines in 6 states, and advised on over 300 residential, commercial, retail, and industrial projects. George also developed transport and land use guidelines for a number of national bodies, including the federal government.

George has three principles for planning: Strategic Planning through developing a canvas of future scenarios and 'soft systems thinking' methods; Engagement via four planning methods; listening, analysing and if necessary becoming a part of the system; and Clever Design through outcome based and reverse thinking methods.

George Giannakodakis has a degree in civil and structural engineering from the University of Adelaide. George also has a background in economics, which they studied at the school.
