Thomas Alt is currently a Board Advisor at Pointr. Prior to that, they were the Director of Strategic Deals Team at Apple from June 2015 to July 2018. Before that, they were the Founder and CEO of metaio from January 2003 to May 2015.

Metaio was one of the leading Computer Vision and Augmented Reality technology providers worldwide. Their vision was to teach smart devices to see, in a fast way, superimpose relevant information and make this base technology available to the masses. Metaio was founded in 2003 in Munich, Germany by Thomas and their co-founder and CTO Peter Meier. They started off with an initial research project with Volkswagen and later received funding from a local research project which helped them bootstrapping their operations in the first years.

In 2005 metaio released the first end-consumer Augmented Reality application called KPS Click & Design, allowing users to place virtual furniture into an image. They then released their metaio Platform offering to give third parties the opportunity to create commercial AR solutions. In 2006 they released the first browser plug-in for web-based AR applications and shortly thereafter, launched the first fully integrated AR app for mobile devices and the first print/web campaign followed by the release of the mobile AR browser junaio.

In 2011, Metaio won the ISMAR Tracking Competition for the world's first mobile 3-D tracking solution. Metaio offered the most versatile and robust mobile development platform as well as services and support to brands all over the world. With over 10 years of experience offering AR and CV software and solutions to more than 1000 B2B customers and over 120,000 developers, Metaio was the international leader in computer vision and augmented reality.

Thomas is a thought leader in the field of computer vision and augmented reality with over 15 years of experience in the industry. Thomas has been instrumental in developing some of the most innovative technologies that have shaped the landscape of AR today.

Thomas Alt first earned their M.Sc. in Production Engineering Automation from the Technical University of Munich. Thomas then went on to earn their Ph.D. in Engineering from Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg.
