Alex Francis has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Alex started their career in 1998 as an IT Consultant at Hampshire County Council, where they provided consultancy services and worked on mainframe systems. In 2000, they joined Castle Links Ltd, a startup web product company, and held roles as a perl programmer, senior engineer, engineering manager, and eventually became the Tech Director. At Castle Links, they built software for recruitment agencies and gained experience in Perl, XML, and Java.
In 2003, Alex joined Sift, an award-winning web agency, as the Engineering Manager. During their tenure, they managed the software team, implemented robust software engineering processes, and introduced the Scrum agile process. Alex utilized Java JEE technologies, integrated legacy Perl software platforms, and utilized a variety of software tools and servers to build software for high-profile clients.
In 2007, Alex briefly worked as a Senior Software Developer at Madgex before joining IMDb.com in 2008 as a Software Engineer. Alex spent six years at IMDb.com, contributing to software development. In 2014, Alex joined Polecat - Incisive Intelligence as a Senior Software Engineer and later transitioned to the roles of Head of Product Engineering and eventually VP Engineering in 2018.
Throughout their career, Alex has demonstrated expertise in software engineering, team management, agile processes, and working with various technologies.
Alex Francis attended the University of Southampton from 1994 to 1998, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Physics (MPhys).
