Joni Backas

Joni Backas has extensive experience in engineering and research, currently serving as Engineering Manager and Project Leader for Operator Assistant Systems at Ponsse since April 2021. Prior to this, Joni worked as a Software Engineer at Ponsse Oyj from April 2018 to March 2021, focusing on model-based design and developing hydraulic system controls for forest machines. Joni's academic background includes a Doctor of Science (Technology) in Automation Science and Engineering and a Master's degree in Machine Automation from Tampere University of Technology. Additionally, Joni has research experience in optimal control and power management of mobile work machines and has contributed to projects involving artificial neural network modeling for hydraulic component efficiencies.
