Steve Stride has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Steve began their career as a Housing Trainee at Southwark Council in 1979. Steve then joined the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, where they held various positions, including Estates Officer, Assistant Housing Manager, Housing Strategy Manager, Neighbourhood Housing Manager, Director of Housing, Community and Environmental Services, and Housing Partnership Manager. In 1998, Steve became the Chief Executive at Poplar HARCA. In 2013, they also took on the role of Vice President at the Chartered Institute of Housing, followed by serving as the President from 2014 to 2015.

Steve Stride completed their education at various institutions. Steve obtained a Professional Qualification in CIH from the Chartered Institute of Housing in 1983. Prior to that, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of Southampton, which they completed in 1979. Before their university education, Steve attended the Central Foundation Boys School, where they achieved 3 A Levels in 1976 and 10 O Levels in 1974.
