Mark Mather has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Mark began their career at the Population Reference Bureau in 1998 as a Policy Analyst, where they provided information on U.S. demographic trends to policymakers, educators, and the media. Mark later became the Program Director at the Rural Families Data Center, where they raised awareness about the well-being of children and families in rural areas through reports and workshops. At the same company, they also served as the Associate Vice President of U.S. Programs, overseeing various funded programs and serving as a Deputy PI and Subrecipient PI on research centers. Prior to that, they worked as a Research Demographer at Decision Demographics, where they analyzed demographic data and assisted on various projects. Mark began their career as a Hewlett Foundation Trainee at the Department of Sociology, University of Maryland, where they conducted research on gender inequality in developing countries. Overall, Mark Mather has extensive experience in demographic research, program management, and policy analysis.
Mark Mather completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology/Sociology at Penn State University from 1987 to 1991. Mark then pursued further education at the University of Maryland, where they obtained their Master of Arts degree in Sociology/Demography from 1991 to 1994. Following that, they continued their studies at the University of Maryland and earned a PhD in Sociology/Demography between 1994 and 1996.
