Celia Chen has a wealth of experience in the tech industry. Celia began their career in 2011 as a Software Engineer Intern at Amazon, where they conducted research on recommendation algorithms and developed and implemented algorithms to find the most relevant products to recommend. In 2012, they interned at Silicon Valley Optical Technology, where they designed and built OMS software in Visual Basic, C++ and Labview for laser cutting machines, wrote laser cutting patterns in C++ for various projects, and maintained the company website on a weekly basis. That same year, they began working at Izatys Acquisition Corp as a Software Engineer, where they implemented features for a golf tee time booking website and an internal payroll system in Python and Django, and assisted the team manager with project management tasks such as monitoring project progress and deadlines in Microsoft Project. In 2013, they took on the role of Lead Instructor at IDtech, where they taught Robotics with up to 8 high school students using VEX tool box, planned and participated in indoor and outdoor activities for students, and supervised 8 instructors in ensuring all students in the program were meeting the curriculum goals. In 2014, they began working at Digital Media Academy, where they served as a Curriculum Developer and Instructor. As an Instructor, they taught various one-week programming classes in Python and Java for middle school and high school students, and supervised 6 teaching assistants. In 2017, they began working at Occidental College as an Assistant Professor, where they developed and taught 7 undergraduate courses, including full stack web development, mobile apps and natural language processing, supervised 7 undergraduate students on 4 projects and resulted in 3 publications, and established the entrepreneurship initiative on campus and participated on the Subcommittee on Finance. Currently, they are employed at Posh Technologies as a Principal Engineer.
Celia Chen completed their Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Indiana University Bloomington in 2011. Celia then went on to pursue their Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California, which they completed in 2014. Finally, they earned their Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science from the University of Southern California in 2019.
