Alex Bhattacharya

Alex Bhattacharya serves as the Head of Data Science at the UK Health Security Agency since November 2021, leading a national division of approximately 30 staff and overseeing data science initiatives across Health Protection Operations. In this role, Alex manages the development of analytics infrastructure, implements an AI strategy, and provides organizational leadership, achieving notable cost savings through innovative projects. As a consultant at Posit PBC, Alex delivers specialized training in R programming, successfully transforming client cohorts into self-sufficient teams. Previous roles include Principal Epidemiologist at Public Health England and the UK Joint Biosecurity Centre, where Alex led pandemic response initiatives and designed surveillance systems for SARS-CoV-2. Alex holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from King's College London and a Bachelor’s degree from McMaster University in Biology and Psychology.
