Nikhil Sontakke

Nikhil Sontakke is a seasoned technology professional with extensive experience in database systems and engineering. Currently serving as Principal@Postgres@Azure at Microsoft since July 2024, Nikhil is involved in the Azure PostgreSQL team working on NextGen Cloud Native Serverless PostgreSQL solutions, alongside contributions to PostgreSQL code development in C and Rust. As a Contributor to the PostgreSQL Global Development Group since May 2006, Nikhil has actively participated in feature development and consulting for PostgreSQL. Previous roles include Core PostgreSQL Database Tech Lead at Timescale, where Nikhil focused on distributed multi-node offerings, PostgreSQL Consultant at 2ndQuadrant, Co-Founder and VP of Engineering at SecureDB Inc, Senior Architect positions at TransLattice and StormDB, and experience at EnterpriseDB and Symantec. Nikhil holds an M.Tech in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and a B.E in Computer Science from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology.
