Edwin Cano

Director, Transmission Reliability And Deliverability at PowerGEM

Edwin Cano is a Principal Consultant at PowerGEM. His primary area of consulting expertise is in power systems transmission planning studies, with emphasis on steady state studies, transfer analysis, transient stability, short circuit analysis, and deliverability assessments. Before joining PowerGEM, Mr. Cano worked at the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) for more than nine years. For about six years, he supervised NYISO Facility Studies including Class Year studies for large generation projects, small generation projects and large transmission projects. In this position, he was involved in multiple Affected System studies with PJM, ISO-NE and IESO, materiality change determination, and deliverability studies. He participated in NYISO interconnection tariff and study processes discussions and redesign. Prior to joining NYISO Planning, Mr. Cano was a Senior Operations Engineer at NYISO conducting seasonal studies and analyzing system events using Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) data. Prior to NYISO, he has held power system consulting positions at several engineering companies. Mr. Cano has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Holy Angel University and graduated with the degree of Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the Technological University of the Philippines.
