Justin Kao

Justin Kao is an experienced software engineer and engineering manager with a strong background in AI, robotics, and system design. At Covariant.ai, Justin formed and led the first subteam within engineering, overseeing projects related to robotics concurrency, telemetry logging, and machine management from August 2019 to July 2021. Prior to this, Justin spent five years at Dropbox, where significant contributions included designing a garbage collection system and leading the migration of permissions systems. Justin's academic background includes a PhD in Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics from Northwestern University and a BS in Applied and Computational Mathematics from Caltech, along with experience as a NSF Postdoctoral Fellow and Lecturer at MIT, where innovative mathematical models and frameworks were developed.
