Michael Sneddon

Director Of Scientific Computing at Predicine

Michael Sneddon has extensive work experience in the field of scientific computing and bioinformatics.

- From October 2021 to the present, they have been working as the Director of Scientific Computing at Predicine.

- Prior to that, from August 2017 to October 2021, they held the position of Software Engineering Manager / Staff Software Engineer at Zymergen, Inc. In this role, they led a team responsible for the compute and data storage infrastructure for NGS data, as well as developing and scaling bioinformatics and genomics pipelines.

- From 2012 to 2017, they worked at Berkeley Lab, where they held the role of Lead Software Developer for the Systems Biology Knowledgebase (KBase). During this time, they led the development of the KBase SDK and App Catalog, a platform for building and deploying bioinformatics and genomics tools. Michael also worked as a Software Developer for KBase from 2012 to 2015.

- From 2006 to 2012, they were a Computational Biologist / Graduate Student at Yale University, where their research focused on modeling and simulating complex biochemical reaction networks. Michael also developed the NFsim stochastic biochemical reaction network simulator during this time.

- Michael started their career as a Research Assistant / Programmer at The RSCB Protein Data Bank from May 2005 to June 2006, where they developed software for extracting protein-protein interactions.

- Michael also worked as a Research Intern / Java Programmer at BioDiscovery in 2004 and as a Web / Database Programmer at 1homerebate.com in 2003.

Michael Sneddon received a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Bioinformatics from UC San Diego from 2002 to 2006. Michael then pursued further studies at Yale University, where they obtained a Master's Degree in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics from 2006 to 2009. Michael continued their education at Yale University and completed a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics from 2006 to 2012.
