John is currently employed as a Test Content Writer at PrepScholar, where they utilize their scientific knowledge of mastery learning principles to create content to help students studying for their SAT. Prior to this, they worked as an SAT/ACT Tutor at Wyzant, assisting students in achieving perfect reading scores by leveraging their expertise in mastery learning principles and remote learning technologies.

In 2020, John established Ott Academ, a virtual reality school where students engage in various immersive activities such as time travel, space exploration, and 3D art. Through their leadership and teaching, students have earned over $100,000 in scholarship money.

Before venturing into the education field, John Ott, Jr. made significant contributions as a Writer and Illustrator. John is the creator of several picture books with worldwide sales, featuring the character Dotty, a young girl raised by an alligator in a swamp in rural South Carolina.
