Bert Smith began their work experience in 2010 as the CEO of the Prison Entrepreneurship Program. In 2019, they became the President of the National Christian Foundation Houston.

Bert Smith received their A.B. in Economics from Princeton University from 1972 to 1976. Bert then pursued their J.D. in Law from The University of Texas School of Law from 1978 to 1981.
