Thomas Kenyon

Dr. Tom Kenyon returned to Project HOPE in September of 2015 after serving 21 years with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), most recently as director of the Center for Global Health, where he oversaw four major global health divisions: Global HIV/AIDS, Parasitic Diseases and Malaria, Global Health Protection and Global Immunization. He also served as CDC’s country director in Botswana, Namibia, and Ethiopia, and as principal deputy global AIDS coordinator and chief medical officer for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in the Department of State.

Earlier in his career, Kenyon served as Project HOPE’s country director for Swaziland and as the pediatrician for Project HOPE at St. George’s Hospital in Grenada, West Indies. He spent 22 years working at the country level to help build capacity of local practitioners, ministries of health and non-governmental organizations.

Kenyon earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University; his M.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine; and his master’s in public health from the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health. He completed training in pediatrics at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson, and completed training as a field epidemiologist in the Epidemic Intelligence Service, Division of Tuberculosis Elimination at the CDC in Atlanta.
