Ellen Pao is the current CEO of Project Include. Ellen has also served as the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer/Venture Partner at Kapor Center/Kapor Capital, Board Member and Audit Committee at SMASH, and Interim CEO at reddit. Pao has also been a Board Member at Datameer and Flipboard Inc.
Pao graduated from Princeton University with a BA in electrical engineering and computer science, and received their JD from Harvard Law School. Ellen began their career as a corporate attorney at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in New York City. In 2005, they left law to join Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers as an associate in their Silicon Valley office, where they focused on investments in technology and healthcare.
In 2010, Pao joined Reddit as business and partnership development lead. In this role, they negotiated licensing deals with Condé Nast, launched the Reddit Gold premium membership program, and oversaw the introduction of user profiles, comments, and other features. As interim CEO of Reddit from November 2014 to July 2015, Pao banned unauthorized nude photos and revenge porn as the first major platform to take a stand against this kind of content. Ellen also banned harassing subreddits from the site. In addition, Pao rebuilt team culture and organization, built the first executive team, created an anti-harassment policy, ran offsites, moved offices, implemented compensation ranges, created a product roadmap and planning process, hired new employees, ran the first stock options 101 session, and created a speakers series.
