Tom Rakestraw has extensive work experience in tax and statutory reporting roles. Tom started their career at Hanesbrands Inc. in 1987, where they held executive and managerial positions in the company's international tax planning and strategy division. During their time at Hanesbrands, they partnered with local counsel, accounting firms, and economists to develop and implement tax effective supply chain structures in Central America, the Caribbean, and Asia. Tom also negotiated a tax and investment incentive proposal with Thailand's Deputy Minister. Additionally, they established offshore corporate banking facilities for Cayman Island affiliates. In 2008, Tom joined Murphy Oil Corporation, where they initially served as a Senior Director and Manager in research and foreign tax. Tom later transitioned to the role of Consultant in international tax planning and compliance. Tom conducted lobbying efforts with a US Senator during their time at Murphy Oil Corporation. In 2023, Tom joined ProKidney Corp. as the Director of Tax and Statutory Reporting.
Tom Rakestraw's education history includes a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Tom then pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in International Relations & Economics from the University of Mississippi. Tom also studied Spanish at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara. Additionally, they completed a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) in Global Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.
